Chapter 6: The Shadows Of The Village

Added by TheDuke22As always it was edited for proper grammar, spelling, organization, chronological order, and to avoid plot-holes. Since then the sixth chapter has been edited several times, its first being sometime during 2/20/09 and its last being on 4/13/10. These edits were done, in order for the beginning of the story to become understandable, flow easily, and without any plot holes.
The chapter picks up where the fifth left off, which was during a untrusting conversation between Ai and Ryuzaki. Feeling uneasy around Ryuzaki’s presence, due to subtle hints dropped, Rosso rushes off alone before the end of the last chapter.
In this chapter, Rosso is alone and silently gazing at a wanted poster of hers, which she had swiped from the Fire Nation authority previously. Feeling weak and vulnerable, especially around Ryuzaki, she vows to train harder.
Lee would mainly train on his own for most of this chapter, which showed his determination to grow as a fighter and bender. Rosso would later meet up with him and recruit Seth and Kozue to train with them.
It would lead to a very pointless, but entertaining sparring and training match of two on two and free for all friendly matches, and would end with a huge meal.
The stranger, who is strangely connected with Lee from Chapter 4, makes another appearance in this chapter. Nothing is still revealed of him, not even a description. It is just stated that he watches everyone train from afar, especially Lee.
Ai and Ryuzaki would continue with their awkward restaurant conversation, until a young child began to eavesdrop and spy on them. Ryuzaki would continue with his subtle hints, sometimes with them actually referring to himself.
The name Kaiser is first used in this chapter and would be reoccurring in many chapters afterwards. It is explained by Ryuzaki that the Kaiser is similar to the Dragon of the West.
Iroh’s name is also first mentioned during this restaurant conversation, with both Ryuzaki and Ai knowing of him personally, but not admitting it to the other. Ryuzaki mentions that the Dragon of the West, who is Iroh, was killed mentally by his own emotions. He did not die, but became worthless to the Fire Nation military and might, as he wasn’t as great as he once was.
As stated by Ryuzaki “All that remains is a shallow empty case of the man he was before.” These conversations cause awkward strife between Ai and Ryuzaki, causing the partners to have a rocky relationship.
The boy who spied on the two would later meet Areo, who he exchanged information over to for money. Little information was received by the child for Areo to confirm his suspicions of Ryuzaki.
Ai whose bending is very inadequate, informs Ryuzaki that she once lightning bended. It is also revealed that she almost died in the process. Ryuzaki states that it is dangerous for a novice fire bender, like her to, to even attempt such a thing.
The theory and idea of Ai bending lightning wouldn’t be resurfaced until many chapters ahead in the series. More awkward drama would continue through most of Ai and Ryuzaki’s conversations, as he pushed away every advance to open up to Ai, who refused to let subjects go.
This chapter is also where Ryuzaki would state one of his more infamous lines, “I will kill CrimsonClaw!” to his partner. His reasons were as simple as that she wanted him to tell her something about him. Secretly he was also testing to see if his partner was a spy, who he was about to incapacitate.
This would not be the case however. Although he did confirm suspicions, he would further alienate his partner’s trust. Despite it all, Ai would still continue to believe in him and deny all accusations and claims he would make.
