Chapter 4: The Bending Dilemma

Added by TheDuke22The Bending Dilemma is the fourth chapter of Avatar The Lost Book, Forgotten Chapters. It uses the entire thread, by the same name The Bending Dilemma, and was edited for proper grammar, spelling, organization, chronological order, and to avoid plot-holes.
Since then the fourth chapter has been edited several times, its first being on 2/18/09 and its last being on 3/4/10. These edits were done, in order for the beginning of the story to become understandable, flow easily, and without any plot holes.
This chapter takes off where the third chapter left off, which was before the second battle began. Most arrived on time, except for Lee who was busy eating at a restaurant and was oblivious to the start of the second battle.
Ryuzaki and Ai were also late to the match, due to oversleeping, but it was not as important as it was not their match, but Lee's. Even though they were almost disqualified due to tardiness, Lee managed to make it to the tournament on time, after realizing that it had already commenced.
The second match consisted of Lee and Rosso against Akem and Roy who were Team Art. They were a earth bender duo who earned their name due to the blood that was spilled on their rocks, which they call canvases.
The chapter and thread titles were hand selected due to the mismatch of opponents. Two skilled earth benders were matched against two teenagers, Rosso who used metallic fans similar to the Kyoshi warriors and Lee who claimed early on that he mostly used his sword and boomerang.
From the start of the match, it is clear that the teammates on Crimson Steel are insecure about their prowess and why they trained constantly here and in future chapters. Hints are shown by the way Lee acts and talks during the situation and how Rosso resorts to questionable head-on tactics.
Once again the participants who are not part of the fight provide little more than commentary. Although this time it is not used as much as in the first battle because more than half of the cast are not present due to being elsewhere.
Areo, is one of the only participants not fighting in the battle who progresses the story mysteriously and slightly. He keeps an eye on Rosso and Ryuzaki, two characters he finds highly suspicious for the right reasons. He lets a little too much information slip during his first confrontation with Ryuzaki, which quickly places himself in danger.
After Ryuzaki's arrival, little is explained about a suspicious tournament dumpling salesman, except that the two seem to have a connection of some kind. It is later revealed that this vender is Abarai posing as part of the tournament staff to keep in contact with his partner.
Unlike Borong and Zhong who fought their opponents but brashly, Akem and Roy showed little if any respect to their adversaries. As they claimed, they are too young and inexperienced for their skills.
As the fight begins, it quickly seems like a one sided match, which most of the audience already believe they know the outcome of.
Due to Rosso's vibrant and brash attitude, she disregards teamwork and rushes straight into the fight. This causes her to become trapped fairly easily and quickly jeopardizes the match and her well being.
Fending for himself with his above average sword and boomerang skills, as well as his feats of flexibility, Lee manages to hold his own, and even saves Rosso from her trap.
Lee would also become trapped within an earth bending lock, which he would manage to break free of by shocking the audience and opponents that he could fire bend. He hoped that he could reveal it at a later time in the tournament, he realized that he would have to reveal it now or risk losing the match.
It is also shown that Rosso has a phobia of fire and fire benders. This almost cost them the match, due to her not being able to cooperate with Lee due to his bending. This is partly due to her time at the Fire Nation, which would leave scarred memories with her through most of her life.
After becoming free, Rosso and Lee would manage to finally work as a team, and created their signature combo attack, which ultimately won them the fight. Yet again, the audience becomes flabbergasted with another unexpected victory. Even a skilled fighter such as Ryuzaki takes interest in these newcomers.
After the victory was announced, no battle line up was given next, and the third battle wouldn't happen until several chapters. An odd stranger, who has some connection to Lee, sees the entire match. It isn't revealed at this time who it is, but the connection is hinted to be of some significance.
Rosso also shows her first hints of affection to Lee after the end of the battle, but this mostly can be reasoned with the fact that he saved her life.
